Although I do not typically suggest finasteride (Propecia) for alopeica (hair loss) it is not out of a conern for sperm density as it does not reduce sperm count. There are other options for alopecia such as topical minoxidil which are equally effective. As minoxidil is not absorbed into the system it has no side effects to speak of. The 'side effect' of finasteride is that it renders the prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test to screen for prostate cancer of no value and I am not convinced that this is a good trade off. There are various trials on this issue and also on decreased libido when one is on finasteride(finapecia).But they are at best,infrequent and minor only.So you need not worry.continue it.New drug dutasteride is also available.Consult a good endocrinologist.
