Can hair loss be a symptom of cancer??

Is it possible to lose your hair if you have cancer. Is it one of the symptoms.I thought that you only lose your hair in chemo. Can u lose it before that. Can hair loss be a symptom of cancer??
no, you do not have hair loss because of cancer .....it can be alot of reasons for hair loss .sometimes :stress , food etc.

please do not worry about hair loss , unless you are getting bald ..it usually does not happen ,some chemical imbalance .nothing serious ........

please consult if you are worry .............Can hair loss be a symptom of cancer??
I have never heard of hair loss due to cancer, unless you have cancer of the scalp or something. However, you can loose your hair due to extreme stress or shock, so I guess for some people the news of a cancer diagnosis could technically cause hair loss. I had a friend who lost all his hair ( even his eyebrows) when his wife had a heart attack. And that kind of hairloss (alopesia totalis) is perminent.
Hair loss is a side effect of chemo. There are other reasons hair can fall out faster than normal i.e. chemical imbalance/hormones, poor diet, stress, Alopecia, herditary

Hello Whatever 1,

What is hair loss? rule of thumb says that grabbing a handful of hair and then pulling firmly, but not to hurt, should yield max 5 hair straws in your hand. If more, you are losing hair. Nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances, skin diseases, inflammatory conditions, would be the most common causes of real hair loss -except if you are a man and happen to have early baldness in your family. Then -alas -there is not much one can-need? to do.(But not everybody gets these in the family -having had a totally bald grandfather since he was 30yr I have a 83 yr old father with lots of hair, proves this point)

As a symptom of cancer : yes-if cancer causes grave hormonal imbalance like serious loss of thyroid hormone or profound anaemia or nutritional deficiencies -but then, most likely, you are having masses of other symptoms also. Not only hair loss.

So -hope you are not only curious but also do not suffer from real hair loss!

All the best

Hair loss is not (as far as I know) caused by the cancer itself. The shock of having cancer or chemotherapy treatments would cause hair loss.
