I'm 4 months postpartum. The hair loss started at 1 1/2 months postpartum, but its gotten more severe. I lose giant chunks of hair, all from the root... in the shower, when I style my hair, or even when I run my fingers through it. My thyroid and anemia tests came back healthy. Is this normal? When is it going to stop? I don't look balding yet, but I fear I may soon :(Severe postpartum hair loss... normal? When will it stop?
This is totally normal. It happened to me with both of my children -- started around 3 months after their birth, and continued for around 2-3 months. Whenever I took a shower, there was so much hair in the drain, it looked like a dead cat.
It will stop soon, and your hair will grow back. Just take it as one more of the terrifyingly embarrassing things you have to suffer through when you have a baby. Also, no one else notices it as much as you do. You'll have your full head of hair back soon.Severe postpartum hair loss... normal? When will it stop?
I had this with my daughter (now 2) and expect I'll have to go through the same with my son, who is just two weeks old now. Most friends of mine reported some hair loss, but mine was really bad...I had short pieces sticking out all over! I never went bald and haven't heard of that ever happening - and the most noticeable part wasn't the loss but when it grew back in short little clumps! I think diet has something to do with it, and I am making an extra effort to be eating really healthy this time around. But anyhow, it is normal for some people, you won't go bald, and a trip to a good hairdresser when it grows back in will help minimize the funkiness of the new growth!
It's completely normal! It will probably stop in few months. I know, that's not what you want to hear, but I promise you, you will not go bold. My daughter is 8 1/2 months old and my hair stopped falling out in bunches about a month ago (started when she was about 3 or 4 months). Many, if not close to all, women go through this, and you don't see them walking around half bold, do you :)
This is normal. Don't panic, you won't go bald. Normally, about 85 to 95 percent of the hair on your head is growing and the other 5 to 15 percent is in a resting stage. After the resting period, this hair falls out often while you're brushing or shampooing it and is replaced by new growth. An average woman sheds about 100 hairs a day.
During pregnancy, increased levels of estrogen prolong the growing stage. There are fewer hairs in the resting stage and fewer falling out each day, so you have thicker, more luxuriant tresses.
After you give birth, your estrogen levels take a tumble and a lot more hair follicles enter the resting stage. Soon you'll have more hair coming out in the shower or on the brush. This unusual shedding will taper off and your hair will be back to its pre-pregnancy thickness about six to 12 months after you give birth.
Same thing is currently happening to me. I started losing my hair 3 months postpartum. I am still losing it, but not as much (currently 4 1/2 months postpartum). I used to be afraid that I would go bald also. I used to joke to my husband that I was going to keep all of the hair that fell out so I could make myself a wig! :)
Nothing to worry about, but if you want to speed up the hair growth i've got this fantastic product which i used to make my hair SMOOTH,SILKY AND STRONG, try it out you have nothing to lose !!
